My thrift find today is a wonderful wraparound skirt which looks a lot like Liberty of London Tana Lawn …if not that then a William Morris type design. As this is a wrap it is one size fits all…..lucky me!

Wouldn’t it look wonderful with the off white pure new wool below knitted into a little lacy cardi? Both of these thrift finds are as good as new and even though I am blowing my own trumpet I feel I have a good eye for these things so if there is anything that you are looking for or if you see anything here in my thrift finds that you would [almost!] kill for…..email me and I will see what I can do!!

Oh by the way the wool is in my etsy store now!

Anniversary flowers

My mother in law is doing well I believe, thank you to all who sent emails and good wishes and prayed. I said she was a strong willed woman and hope that keeps her around for a very long time as she loves life and travelling. I would hate to see her go before she is ready…..she has lots to do yet….good grief 80 is the new 60…not sure if I have that around the right way but you get my point I guess!

We had a lovely anniversary dinner and the next day some gorgeous flowers arrived from David’s family in England…which was lovely of them considering all that was going on. I told my parents by email just in case anything happened to Sue and mentioned in the email that it was our Silver Wedding Anniversary and we received a card two days later so am wondering if they would have remembered if I had not prompted them.

I have fabulous news regarding friendship, my friend from high school with whom I went to see Led Zeppelin contacted me today after reading that post…she must have Googled herself or someone was checking on her…amazing. Am so happy as have long wondered about her and her girls. She is in Korea of all places…looks like we are not the only ones who have travelled and left people behind.

I am on the second strip of my afghan and have gathered together quite a bit of wool in the subtle heather like shades of this colourway and have found I have nowhere near enough in the brights colourway so the hunt is on in thrift shops and sales for those.

California Dreaming

Today’s post is inspired firstly by a fabulous book I bought from our local library’s written off book section. I bought this wonderful hardcover coffee table book for $1 and it is in as new condition though it was published in 1975. It compliments perfectly the fabric from the Waverley Jacquards sample book which Kara gave to me earlier this year. This is high quality very thick upholstery fabric which is best used with medium to heavy weight velvets etc. I have a few ideas for the use of this fabric and after seeing the cover of this book am keen to get a move on and make something with the samples….just too glorious to lay around!

The second inspiration also came from the book ….gorgeous oceans and various summery scenes. It has been snowing and near to snowing again here in Sydney….don’t ask me why…global warming or a repeat of something that only transpires every few hundred years? We do not have records for very far back so it is hard to know but its more a case of necessity than inspiration really that I find myself knitting this scarf in the tones found in my bowls of beads and also in the book. I did have to hunt for the wool in my storage area but the book inspired me to get started! I keep these beads near my computer as a little positive reinforcement that summer or at least brighter days will return. A little colour therapy and inspiration combined, and maybe one day i will get around to stringing the necklaces…when my fingers are a little less frozen!
