The lovely Aneela at Comfort Stitching is hosting our HHQAL. We have a flickr group here where all the wonderful photos will be going and I just have to work out how to get a widgety thing on the sidebar here so that you can see all who are participating. It is very exciting and we are so thankful to Aneela and Ruth Eglington for organising templates and information. They are two fabulous women!

Step One is to choose various fabrics. Aneela said it is best with this method to not use too large a print and she said to choose at least ten different prints. The full instructions are here on her blog, do check it out …she is such a cutie patootie as they say.

Step Two is to wash them, good job I did as a few of mine ran onto the paler blues. I am using some of  my dear friend Sally’s Liberty of London fabric samples which she sent me last year….this is perfect for them.

Be back soon with Part Two

We still have yet to find our Christmas star for our tree but have finished the decorating now after popping up to Bondi Junction to get more hot pink, lime green and turquoise ornaments to go with our bejewelled theme. I have almost finished making a bejewelled garland from tinsel and baubles as well.

Yesterday Ollie the toddler from the flat opposite popped in when his mum picked up something from our fridge and as they are going to New Zealand for Christmas I gave him the bag with his Nativity wall hanging which his mum loved as he is too young for it. He liked the finger puppets too but best of all for him was the tree as he does not have one up what with going away and all….so he had the best fun with the glass ornaments which when he batted them looked like a spinning top! He cackled with glee and went at it again..this was after carrying around the animals from our Willow Tree Nativity scene…those are some form of pottery!!

His mother Debbie was a tad nervous by then but the absolute best place for him was when he discovered CJ’s room. He just stood and gawked at the wonder that is his room, I guess he realised that it was a boy’s room…even if an adult boy ….his expression was priceless. It was as if he were in Santa’s Grotto or Aladdin’s Cave or maybe Hambly’s toyshop in London. I also found the way to get him out of our place as Debbie was a nervous wreck in case he broke anything by then …I scooped him up and naturally he leaned straight towards her….worked like a charm although near the door he realised he had been conned and started screaming to stay.  Next year I will have the nativity on a removable stand so it can be taken out of the room before he comes so his mum can relax more!

My thrift find today is a wonderful wraparound skirt which looks a lot like Liberty of London Tana Lawn …if not that then a William Morris type design. As this is a wrap it is one size fits all…..lucky me!

Wouldn’t it look wonderful with the off white pure new wool below knitted into a little lacy cardi? Both of these thrift finds are as good as new and even though I am blowing my own trumpet I feel I have a good eye for these things so if there is anything that you are looking for or if you see anything here in my thrift finds that you would [almost!] kill for…..email me and I will see what I can do!!

Oh by the way the wool is in my etsy store now!

This is officially my 100th post on WordPress although as I did delete all of last year’s posts it’s not truly 100 but I am still celebrating this and also my soon to be opened etsy store. So I am hosting a giveaway…a lot of people on flickr have commented on my fabrics and thrift finds so this shall be a fabric scraps and laces and various scrumptious goodies giveaway. I shall go through my Laura Ashley and Liberty of London fabrics and cut off bits and co ordinate with lovely buttons and other yummy things. I was thinking there would be enough of everything to make a cute scrap booking style wall mini quilt. there shall also be a lovely evening bag and other goodies…perhaps jewellery. Am making myself excited so better get on with the details!

Okay, should  the reader who is picked be a non sewer I shall make or find them some scrumptious goodies!

Also there shall be a separate giveaway for my regular readers…I shall put their names in a pot and draw one out as well…seems only fair.

There shall be another giveaway for people who come over from flickr as well!

To enter just comment on this post and if possible mention it on your blog too and link back to this blog…..think that is how one does it. Closing date for this giveaway is 20/09/08….September 20th 2008.

Good luck! Oh by the way the little dress is my thrift find for yesterday…a Laura Ashley fitted sheath in a size 8 made in Australia all cotton and fully lined for $12.

Update: over the next few days I shall photograph some of the buttons and goodies that might be included in the giveaway…watch out for those posts!

Liberty Blues

Liberty Blues

Liberty Blues is a lovely little handbag I made with some of the gorgeous fabric samples my friend Sally sent me recently. This bag uses four of the samples in toning and contrasting shades. I also used some of the buttons which I have had in my collection for over fifteen years now….back from the days when I was a mad knitter. I plan to make a lot more of these and also some larger patchwork shopping bags which will co-ordinate with them. Keep watching this space!
