I have been working on my dragonfly horses toddler quilt. It is progressing nicely and should be ready for the giveaway on my 200 posts soon.
I am working chain circles on the edges at the back. Don’t you love those butterflies?
Almost finished my toddler quilt using scraps from other projects and the dragonfly material that my friend gave me last year. I am quilting in circles with a gorgeous perle thread which I bought from Spotlight last year. Must get this finished as am about to start the hexagon quiltalong with Aneela of Comfort Stitching fame, although that is actually hexagons 2009 style…by machine….yeah so I can still work on this when not on the dreaded machine. Yes my Janome is finally on its last legs…the tension has been playing up for some time and its actually cheaper to get a new one than to pay for servicing…..madness I know.
Not long now until my 200th post…keep watching this space!
My new tote with my latest finds from the charity shop…
lovely new green handbag and violet skirt…brand new with label attached!
I chain stitched the seams on the front and added random quilted circles on the back. The bag is lined with the same lilac fabric as the straps.
I find it interesting that the bag appears rectangular yet it is a true square.
Its dimensions are 42cm x 42 cm.

My latest tote which was inspired by the wonderful work of Marilyn Robertson, see below.
It was interesting sewing as when I was almost finished the four blocks the light fixture fell out of the ceiling, missing me luckily but there was not enough light to finish that night and I only had three quarters of the front done when the light fell. It was a tad frustrating!
The next day I sewed madly in the daytime and after taking out that insipid pink in that above block I finished the four blocks and sewed them together. The next stage was to square them up or in my case rectangularize them and make the back so that I could sandwich the pieces together so that I could quilt them in the lounge room where the light was okay. I quilted in a swirling circular motion on the front and whirly random dervishes on the back.
I needed to have enough quilting so that the wadding does not separate through wear. One way to avoid this I have found is to use polar fleece instead of wadding. One does not have to worry about not quilting closely enough and it helps give the bag a better shape as well while still being lightweight. The next stage was to make the straps which I made using scraps from the rest of the QAYG blocks and to quilt them…that took longer than the back or front then all that was left to was to add the lining and attach the straps.
After hand sewing the facing inside the bag I proudly displayed it in the lounge room for all to see. well husband and son anyway! Although I did use it today and yesterday and it was very comfortable and if I do say so myself the most original shopping bag in town!
I am planning to make it in batiks and hand painted fabrics as well as upholstery fabrics in lush chenilles and tapestries for winter…that would look really great as a cushion too. Oh the glamour, just so many ideas!
I have been sewing lots of different things and have almost finished a tablecloth /quilt which was inspired by a project in a Japanese craft book I found in Kinokuniya after I met Dina and family. This book is chock full of so many fun projects and the most stunning tote bags complete with matching blackberry holders!!!
Have you ever seen anything so sweet? I cannot wait to make it and I am going with black and white patterned cotton with lime green and maybe hot pink touches…..need to get those leather handles too. I also have been making this Wonky Geisha Quilt…it is a quilt as you go and quite achievable for non quilters…any takers? First of all i tried it like this
then i settled on this which works heaps better for me, although a lot of my friends on flickr like the first version!
This tablecloth is hopefully going to be finished by Thursday so that I may spoil my friend Ester with afternoon tea.
I will be getting out my butterfly china and doing the whole elegant tea thing. Oh if you look carefully you will see the border fabric in the quilt has lots of yellow butterflies.
