This week has been a full one with lots of shopping, coffee drinking and catching up with friends. I now have an assistant, Daniel, to help me with my postage system and other things. He helps me after school one day a week and I am hoping  that in time I will be able to offer him more work. We like to joke that I am Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada and he is Ann Hathaway but he is far better dressed than her character and though I adore that hairstyle  my hair just will not go that glorious shade of grey! But I am as well dressed! I think this bag is a little like something Meryl’s character would have used don’t you? I found this for two dollars at a charity shop this week! Madness!

The shoes were found at Vinnies last year…they are by JIGSAW and divine.

EMBROIDERED SHOES

A week or so ago I found a mannequin at Vinnies which has made everything I do so much more enjoyable. The clothes look so much better…especially the  jewellery. I am having so much fun draping necklaces over her to go with various outfits. Daniel is also an awfully good op shopper and is proving invaluable in double checking garments for flaws etc which is a big help as Vinnie’s have had a lot of 50% off sales lately and it has been hard to check everything I buy as garments can be quite heavy when there are lots of them draped over one’s arm!

This is one of the outfits I bought on a 50% off day recently. It is by Rodney Clark, a top Australian designer and has a chiffon outer layer with masses of flounces and it is is lined with taffeta!! Incredible!  I did not know that Gordon Smith clothing was under the RODNEY CLARK umbrella but I guess I should not be surprised as the quality is amazing.

I am also in the middle of hanging all my gorgeous ebay garments onto these

my size

multi purpose hangers which I purchased from Howard’s Storage World. The hangers are great but the online service leaves something to be desired as my son also ordered some dvd storage towers and one was severely damaged and he is still waiting for a pick up well over a fortnight or so later. Shame on you for your poor customer service Howard’s Storage World, he has been a great customer and has been treated shabbily. Will let you know what develops.

Update..the next day we were contacted about a pickup and drop off a new dvd case by someone at Howard’s Storage World online so my son’s dvd collection should be sorted!

Had an interesting experience in Vinnies today….after having such wonderful and positive experiences on ebay it was a real eye opener as to perhaps why so many people are going the ebay route. As you know I have had a few problems before...only ever in a particular store ..usually I prefer to encourage and praise the workers but after my husband’s case of workplace bullying was found in the favour of his supervisor and my own complaint was on balance disbelieved I guess I simply cannot take any crap from them anymore.

I went into the store with intent of finding some plus sized clothes…a mammoth job as most clothes there are in standard sizes and it takes forever to go through all of the ladies and also the mixed clothes downstairs. Out of the whole store there may be around five  plus sized items…and the store has two levels of women’s clothing….that is how big a job it is.  Also problematic are the racks which are stuffed to the max with clothing…one rack over another one and the racks are full of clothing on really flimsy hangers which constantly snap in one’s hand. So after checking out a third of the downstairs I popped upstairs to check the ladies shirts and jackets etc. By then my hands had gone.

A little explanation…due to my silly arthritis and accompanying stenosis of the spinal column in my cervical and thoracic vertebrae I have trouble raising my arms above waist height …my hands go all pins and needles …and they hurt…and then they go numb and I  start to drop things. I dropped several tops which I was buying but I left them at my feet as I knew I would only drop them again and I was still looking through the lower rack.  A man I took to be a volunteer …he was wearing an apron and was muttering to himself as he went through the store  repeatedly….I kept getting out of his way as there is no room to manouvre in this shop anymore. Anyway he came upstairs just as I dropped the shirts and I heard him say…as he looked at the things at my feet…okay just drop them there ..that’s the way to do it…or words to that effect.

I must say I was chagrined and mortified to be spoken to like that and when a few minutes later a worker I know came upstairs and asked if something was wrong I said yes…. I did not like being spoken to by the volunteer that way. I said I felt he was a little unusual and had been rude. A booming what has this particular volunteer done came from behind me and  bugger me if he was not directly behind me …totally invading my body space and I felt inappropriately questioning me about what I was discussing with the worker. Well, not one to back down, not after our previous experiences….I repeated I did not like to be spoken to like that. He said he was telling someone else to leave donations somewhere……even though he was looking at me and I saw no other person…although there could have been one….I did not see one however.

Well then I apologised and said I was sorry …that it was bad timing that it happened as he said it to a customer but he was very shirty and kept saving aggressively…I am so over this …it is gone it is nothing etc etc. Well it was not over as I felt both  my body space and my disability had been poorly treated. I went downstairs and saw him chatting to the workers on the cash register and he then went upstairs again brushing past me in quite an unusual manner.  I asked the workers if the manager was in and they said they would get her. She came down and apologised and said something like …you know we have problems with some people not being able to talk to people properly. I said …yes but I felt that you should know as if it happened to me it could happen to others. I also explained a little about my health and how difficult it is to shop there since the new overstocking of the racks came in. She said to let her know if they could help get anything down for me…which was sweet but not really the point.

So all in all a good day as my clothing order from the US came in the post…trust me you have never seen the like of these jackets etc…silk and embossed, embroidered or quilted! The whole experience was pleasant even picking up the parcels! I did however find a stunning Liz Claiborne handbag and two lovely shirts for myself in Vinnies….I think it was worth it…..I hope so anyway…it just leaves  a nasty taste in the mouth. Where is Mary Queen of Charity Shops when you need her?

100% thrifted!

My new summer outfit, 100% thrifted and 100% natural fibres and products!  The designer is Marina Rinaldi of Italy who makes the most glorious plus sized as well as usual sized clothes in only the most gorgeous of natural fibres. This is a set which again took me three visits over two weeks to find as the outfit had been split up. It is unworn and made of silk and linen.

marina rinaldi

The outfit consists of a maxi coat dress in linen, a stretchy cami and stretchy pants. It is incredible to touch and really beautifully made. When new the coat dress would be minimum four hundred dollars …so this is around a thousand dollars for this outfit…a grand outfit in more ways than one!

100% thrifted!

Yesterday while charity shopping I found the perfect handbag made of silk….patchwork too! The Diana Ferrari mules with a small heel are the perfect companion  to this outfit. Roll on all those Christmas parties and theatre evenings! All I need to do now is make myself some jewellery.

Do let me know if you like this and if you would like me to look out for one for you..I am selling my finds through The Wardrobe Store.com and I can also look through their data base to see if they have anything similar on your size. Unfortunately though it would cost a tad more there than the thirty dollars I paid for the three pieces. The mules were eight dollars and a real find as they are brand new as is the bag…a steal at eight dollars also.

basler

I have just been looking at my favourite fashion label, Basler…oh so divine and in big sizes too

Basler of Germany

I have a three piece suit which I was delighted to find on three separate shopping expeditions! Yes I found each piece in the same shop but they had been split up..took me a few weeks of faithful popping into the shop to find the set! It is made of silk and linen and cotton…and is in a gorgeous soft turquoise. Very flattering to the over fifty woman.

The jacket works with so many of this season’s outfits too, wonderful! My Elizabeth S wrap skirt is of the softest silk and the

My Size skirt is linen and silk. Do check out the My Size website for plus sizes if you are in Australia…even full price they are a bargain.

I bought this Basler skirt for my friend last summer…it will look spectacular with the

elegance for summer

Anthea Crawford blazer I found her recently. I adore black and white with a touch of hot pink!

Anthea Crawford original evening jacket

Anthea Crawford is one of our leading designers….there isn’t actually a lot of her fashion line on ebay so I probably could have made a lot of money on that jacket!  I also found her a really striking skirt with a border from the Smithsonian Online store which works with the blazer too.

dior

The other day as I was leaving my local charity shop I found a scarf for my son. I was really pleased when I examined it to see it is a Christian Dior made of 100% wool. It is quite something and in as new condition….and not a fake as were some on ebay.

I am in the midst of some quite exciting goings on workwise. I recently was asked to come in to interview for a charity and was told it was for a visual merchandising position…I was quite chuffed to be considered and although I was not in a position to do that I have a few other things going on that are quite interesting. Especially since my husband is now back at work but has dropped down from his management position….he was not well enough to come back as a manager and as his Worker’s Comp was taken away from him there was not a lot else he could do …they could not and would  not keep his management position open until he is fully recovered. We are down a considerable amount of money now per week so am thankful that these past years have given me skills or helped me perfect skills so that opportunities may be considered when they present themselves. Will let you know soon after I have a few interviews!

haute couture

This stunning silk dupioni pantsuit is by Indian haute couture designer Deepika Govind. It is a size 16 Australia/UK and is tailored to a high degree of excellence. I am happy to negotiate a price on this as I would like it to go to a good home!

The two camisoles are also by the same designer …one of silk and one of linen and again a size 16.
