Totes to make

One of the bags from a Japanese magazine I want to make soon.

I survived my meeting with the Investigative Committee on Monday night…thanks everyone for your good thoughts, prayers and vibes. I was impressed with the three gentlemen who interviewed me and was very appreciative of the support given to me by my best friend Bettina who accompanied me.

I was told by someone the other day that there are at least 400 cases so far…I would guess with varying degrees of trauma. I was told today by someone else that what we suffered..my husband and I …was emotional violence and I tend to agree. After all being told not to discuss the case and the like is often what happens when people in a position of power over you are trying to perpetuate the violation.

Am not sure where we go from here but there will be a committee of reconciliation where I am hoping my request for a written apology will be dealt with. I would also not mind the removal of various people from their jobs.

They have sacked the CEO…next on the list according to this article might be the Human Resources Manager. And I would heartily concur with this. Why do they need a lawyer as their Human Resources Manager anyway? And who gave them their orders I wonder? The position of CEO is currently being advertised on the Catholic Jobs website. the job description states “The CEO should be a servant of the volunteers who comprise the Society”

One thing that did strike me was perhaps the need for a support group for the victims…so much of this has been kept from the public and often from their own families. When I was there the person leaving the previous interview seemed very keen to talk…to acknowledge a shared trauma.

I do know there are far worse things in the world, floods in Pakistan etc, but unless we fix things within our own society how can we hope to help others outside? We are a society nowadays where most of the workforce are “the working poor” and I believe Vinnies is in a position to do something about that. In Victoria they run cost price supermarkets for pensioners and health card holders…I do so wish they would establish this here in NSW. As the ABC Life Matters says..it would help the stigma of asking for food vouchers and these supermarkets employ volunteers who wish to give back. There are so many things Vinnies could be doing with the money they acquire instead of spending it on QC’s and the like.
