Leafy Rosy Quilt

Friday’s Flickr find is old favourite of mine, Anita of Rhubarb Patch on flickr and Blooming Workshop on WordPress. Anita has the most amazing photostream where she not only shows us her work as it progresses [wips]

she also has the most wonderfully creative way of showcasing her completed quilt tops and quilts. This is just a tiny glimpse into the wonders of her photostream. She is also a lover of Kaffe Fassett’s work and in my opinion is one of the best interpreters of his work…part from Sally that is

This  week on flickr I discovered the wonderful work of Lyne Marie of Abigails Atliers who, along with the glorious photography of her husband, take us back to another time. Lyne Marie sources a lot of her fabrics and furs etc from vintage and charity shops.Even the icy days of winter do not deter Lyne Marie and her husband from getting that perfect shot….not at all easy on Britain’s frigidly cold beaches …but thanks for the effort Lyn …your photoshoots are spectacular!

I was delighted to see a gorgeous gown made using some Laura Ashley curtains! As you may know the earlier Laura Ashley fabric range was always sourced from archivally correct historic collections and Lyne Marie has done a spectacular job with this gown. Like seamstresses of olde Lyne Marie makes her gowns entirely by hand and at an incredibly generous price too. So if you are looking for something for that fancy dress ball or a special party …or the ultimate wedding dress…do remember Abigails Atlier….the standard of the work looks quite breathtaking.

fun at the finish

the best part of sewing quilts or bags for me is the final bit…not because it is so near to the end but I adore the hand sewing and the neatening and the tucking in of threads etc.

Crosses meets Sparkle

I am quietly excited about the inauguration tomorrow night and am gearing myself towards staying up for the whole thing live. There will be plenty of hand sewing to keep me going and also some cutting out of squares for my cross quilt which I have been longing to do for years. The pattern is in Kaffe Fassett’s Quilt Road [pictured above] which I bought last year with my birthday money. Hope everyone has a wonderful few days….change has come to the world…and long overdue too…. I am so excited to be able to share this historic event with my son.

I found this fabric last year in our local charity shop. The panel is hand painted and is signed by the artist. I paid a fair price for this but thought it was worth it to save the piece and to make use of it. I think it could be around ten to twenty years old…another piece had some rust spots which I managed to work around…and another one has a zebra pattern which is a clever sort of puzzle really…photo coming soon.

glimpse of tote

The beauty of these panels is that they are suitable for men or women and ecologically are very practical… not only have they been saved from landfill but the true beauty of the artwork has been enhanced and made into something practical. I shall be spot cleaning this bag although I think dirt and stains may have a hard time making their presence felt on this bright beauty. I used a similar plain brown cotton for the backing and lined it and made the handles with some toning blue plain cotton.

This month I met  talented designer/ quilter Cera on flickr. This stunning quilt is her first large quilt and it is also her own design. She is hoping to one day have the pattern published..I say definitely go for it…..this is a really striking design and I love the deceptive simplicity. You can see more of cera979′s work on flickr. Not only is she talented in her work….her photoshoots are amazing.
