Earlier this week I found a small, about 12cm, Japanese vase which is signed in Japanese script which until I photographed it just now I thought had a rose on it! It is actually a hibiscus and quite beautiful. I recognised the type of vase as when my husband and I were at an antiques fair last year we bought our son a similar vase with two geisha on it. They both have slightly crackled glazing and are similar in size. We paid over fifty dollars for CJ’s and this one set me back three dollars!

Friday Finds More Storage

On Wednesday I saw this set of drawers in our local charity shop and had several errands to do further down the road so could not buy them then as I knew I could not carry them home. I was very pleased to see this set as last weekend I saw them in Spotlight for $20 and although I was keen on starting to collect them I wanted to make sure they were strong enough for my needs. So when I saw them in the local charity shop I was really pleased. And luckily nobody else wanted them between Wednesday and today. My plan is to have one drawer for laces one for doilies etc etc. I plan to have mine in my garage storage area as it is much drier in there than in our unit and eventually would like to build a wall of drawers to hold all my crafting paraphernalia.

I also found a pair of brand new pointy toed Italian sandals with half an inch heel….sweet and my needing to be replaced knees loves em too! The Flower Fairies Address and Birthday Book is just darling and useful for gifts as it is Brand Spanking New!! What else? Oh an almost new vintage cotton sheet in a pretty daisy design and a very colourful and extremely large pillowcase from Target which is also brand new…think I am going to make either part of a single strippy duvet cover with that or a market bag for vegetables etc.

Am very happy with this week’s shopping and even more so as I had a chat with the manager of the charity shop where I had the run in earlier this year. [You would need to read the blog post to understand what happened earlier this year.] Suffice to say that I did not go back into that shop until last week…that is over six months since the incident… and I must say that the manager is a fair person and does not appear to hold it against me unlike the female staff who are so officious and cold now. But as I said to my son…if I had known they were going to be like that I would have gone back ages ago as it is fun seeing just how silly people can be sometimes. Awful, aren’t I?

Reborn baby blanket

!00% upcycled bassinet or crib blanket for newborn babies.

This was made from two pieces of fleece found in a charity shop.

WIP crib blanket

The blue fleece was already hand embroidered saving me the trouble but I am keen to

do more myself as love embroidery and have heaps of silks and wools to use.

The binding is also upcycled from some yardage I found many years ago…

have been waiting for the right project.

I am thrilled with this as someone took the time to lovingly and skillfully

embroider this fleece top and I would like to feel I did them proud.

Azaleas 0 picniked

We have had extremely changeable weather here lately with a few very

hot days of 35 °C. It is now around 22°C and after a heavy overnight

rain my azalea plants on our balcony were bruised and battered.

I took the opportuntity to deadhead them and found some wonderful new growth …the most gorgeous lime green in colour. I took some photos after moving the pots to a more sheltered part of the balcony and topping them up with potting mix.

I love the way the paint splatters on the wall look like

some of the photos in Kaffe Fassetts books, don’t you?
