Who uses tea towels any more?
magikquilter July 19th, 2008
Bought some really cute tea towels in Target a while ago and shall soon have restyled them into something more useful. I prefer to let dishes dry in the air and use water that is so hot that it virtually steams them dry anyway. My husband does but he is not getting these beauties! I hate to see holes in cotton tea towels from knives etc…its heartbreaking! Photos coming soon!

I use tea towels…not just for drying dishes but for all around kitchen use. I like the woven cotton type, because there is no lint. I do try to keep my prettiest ones for “special” use like lining a bread basket. There’s no fear of my hubby putting a hole in one while working in the kitchen…because he’s not even sure where the kitchen is. Just kidding…but he does not work in the kitchen. That’s my turf.
I’ve seen some really darling aprons made from tea towels…and tote bags, too.
Your new ones are lovely!
I was actually going to call this …these tea towels are too nice to use…that would have been more appropriate really as I use them but more as napkins and at the weekends to dry stuff before my husband can get at my good china as he is helpful but a tad heavy handed!!! Like the “your turf”!!! My husbands turf is everywhere…one of the reasons for my being upset about the five month trip is he does so much here…although it has to be done his way and we have to get out of the way while he does it….mostly cause he is 6′5″ and needs a lot of room….maybe I should rethink my opposition to the trip!!!
I have just bought a pretty embroidered floral set for the bread basket ….its also got a napkin and tray cloth. These are so pretty and at $10 for two tea towels pricey for me so am making tote bags with them as hate the calico and strange recycled type ones we have here in our supermarkets.
I can’t wait to see what you do with your tea towels. I also bought some at Target (clearance price $2.10) that have an adorable monkey/palm tree scene appliqued onto them. My first thought was the middle panel for a quilt so I snagged enough for 6 (why, I don’t know lol) but now I’m also thinking it would be a cute front for a small tote bag. Get busy with yours so I can get some inspiration
Hi there I am doing a tote bag as the front should look really special with the applique on it…have you seen the kids dresses made out of pillowslips? I made some single bed duvets out of some pillowslips …..I like to fool around with strips of fabric. Thanks for the comment …it was fun to see you here.
